Foothills Medical Centre McCaig Tower – Calgary
The new McCaig Tower at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary is the result of a 10-year vision to expand the Foothills Campus, based on the needs of the population of Calgary and surrounding area.
Funding:
- $550-million, provincially funded.
Highlights:
- The eight-storey McCaig Tower will have 23 operating rooms, 93 acute care beds, a 36-bed intensive care unit, new lab and diagnostic imaging areas as well as a muscular-skeletal clinic and other out-patient services.
- Equipped with the latest medical technology and specialized infection prevention and control features.
- So far, the facility created a 10 per cent increase in surgical capacity at the FMC, adding to the 17,000 surgeries performed annually at the Foothills Medical Centre.
Timelines:
- October 12, 2010, officially opened.
- October 20, 2010, orthopedic surgical unit relocated to McCaig Tower.
- October 29, 2010, central processing relocated to McCaig Tower.
- November 15, 2010, 31-bed orthopedic surgical unit, two new operating rooms, four new day surgery beds, four new Post Anesthesia Recovery Beds (PACU), and one new X-ray room opened in McCaig Tower
- December 7, 2010, general surgery/trauma unit relocated to McCaig Tower
- April, 2011, ICU opened
- June, 2014 completion of renovations to Main Hospital facility of vacated spaces from programs that moved into the Tower.
