AHS Security Check Requirement for Residents and Post-Graduate Trainees
Under the Protection for Persons in Care Act, Alberta Health Services (“AHS”) has a legal obligation to ensure that parties engaged in the delivery of care or support services for AHS undergo Security Checks. To meet this legislative requirement, and as a condition of employment or working in an AHS hospital or facility, all Residents and Post Graduate Trainees (PGTs) are required to produce a valid AHS Security Check (AHSSC).

PARA On Call Payment Details (Edmonton):
As per the PARA agreement, residents are paid for on call responsibilities required by their academic programs. This is done by having each program submit one report for each block of the academic year listing which residents were on call which days and for what type of call. This report is submitted by either a chief resident or program administrator selected by each program.
To help residents interpret their pay stubs, details about which programs for which blocks have been paid on which pay cheque follow. If, after looking at his/her pay stub and the details below, a resident:
- ... does not see a particular program/block listed which they expected to see, the resident should get in touch with the chief resident or program administrator for the block and confirm that the timesheet has been submitted to Alberta Health Services.
- ... sees a particular program/block listed which they expected to see but was not paid the amount s/he expected based on the on call shifts worked
... the resident should get in touch with the chief resident or program administrator for the block and confirm what was on the timesheet submitted. If what was submitted to Alberta Health Services is not correct, the chief/program administrator will submit a correction to Alberta Health Services. If what was submitted to Alberta Health Services is correct but the amount paid appears wrong, the resident should send an email to PARAoncall@albertahealthservices.ca and a detailed breakdown of what was paid will be emailed back.
