New health centre opens in Edmonton's Southwest

EDMONTON, AB - Alberta Health Services is pleased to announce the opening of the Rutherford Health Centre, located at 11153 Ellerslie Road.
"The new Rutherford Health Centre has been developed in response to the fast growing population of young families in southwest Edmonton," says Ken Hughes, Chair, Alberta Health Services Board. "The population of this community has grown significantly over the past several years, and we anticipate more than 16,000 visits to the new centre each year."
Residents of Rutherford and southwest Edmonton have previously been accessing health centres located in the south and southeast communities of Duggan, Twin Brooks and Millwoods; the Rutherford Health Centre will now provide resources closer to home for local residents.
"We're very happy to have Rutherford join the long list of public health centres serving residents in the Edmonton area," says Pam Whitnack, Chief Operating Officer, Community and Rural, Alberta Health Services. "Our health centres offer services delivered by interdisciplinary teams of community health nurses, speech and language pathologists, dental health professionals, nutritionists, and other health and community professionals."
The Rutherford Health Centre will offer an array of individual and group services including:
- Nurse on-site five days per week
- Child Health Clinic
- Early Childhood Oral Health Services
- Preschool and School-Age Clinics offered by the School Health Nursing Team
- Preschool speech
- Community rehabilitation programs and services
- Chronic Disease Management programs, including Weight Wise and Diabetes Self Management
- Pre-conception and Prenatal Classes
- New Moms Network and Breastfeeding Classes
- Immunizations, including influenza
- Preschool developmental screening workshops
