Annual outdoor triathlon of fun sprints back to Bonnyville

May 25, 2011

BONNYVILLE — The Moose Adventure Challenge triathlon is back with a fun day of canoeing, mountain biking and walking, as well as other community events.

Bonnyville’s annual outdoor adventure gives friends and family an opportunity to enjoy an active day together. It also includes a morning of activities, a barbecue lunch, prizes and trophies.

“The Moose Adventure Challenge is a great example of how, as a community, we can work together to help youth, adults and seniors stay active,” says Florence Senecal, Health Promotions Facilitator with Alberta Health Services and a member of the organizing committee.

“The Moose Adventure Challenge encompasses a variety of activities that people can choose to do at any level of intensity,” says Vic Stapleton, Economic Development Officer for the Town of Bonnyville. “It’s a fun opportunity for families and friends in our community to get together and enjoy the outdoors.”

This year marks the third annual Moose Adventure Challenge. Ages 15 and up can enter in teams of four, or if they’re really ambitious, in teams of two.

“It’s only as competitive as you want it to be,” adds Stapleton. “We have seniors, teens and all ages in between participating.”

Promoting active living to families and in communities is part of Alberta Health and Wellness and AHS’ 5-Year Health Action Plan.

“This event clearly demonstrates the community’s commitment to active living,” adds Senecal.

The Moose Adventure Challenge takes place on Sunday, June 19, 2011. Cost is $25 per person; youth ages 15 and under can enter for free. Space is limited; the deadline to register is June 4.
