Who is the Patient Concerns Officer?

Mareika PurdonMareika Purdon is the Patient Concerns Officer (PCO) and she is appointed by the President and Chief Executive Officer for AHS, per provincial regulations.

The PCO is responsible for determining fairness of the patient concerns resolution process used to address a specific concern. There is one PCO for all of Alberta Health Services, including all contracted service providers. 

What does she do?

  • She receives and investigates a concern, after the concern has been processed by the Patient Concerns Department.
  • She reviews the process to ensure decisions have been made fairly.
  • She provides the results to the person who submitted the concern.
